JOINT PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND FOREIGN TRADE

Terms of Reference

1.

Keep under constant review the development and implementation of Barbados ' political and economic external relations.

2.

Receive reports and recommendations from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and other relevant authorities.

3.

Send for persons, papers and records.

4.

Appoint specialists and experts as advisors to the Committee as deemed necessary.

5.

Meet concurrently with other departmental committees to exchange information and views.

6.

Receive oral and written submissions from members of general public concerning matters relating to foreign affairs and foreign trade.

7.

Examine bills/legislation pertinent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and any other matters referred to it.

8.

Report recommendations and findings and submit such reports and findings to the Honourable the House of Assembly from time to time as may be considered appropriate.

9. 

Convene at least once every quarter.

10.

Perform any other functions and tasks that may be referred to the Committee.

Hon. R. C. Eastmond: To move that the House resolve itself into Committee of Supply to consider the grant of sums of money for the service of this Island.

         (a)  Hon. R. C. Eastmond:  To move the passing of a Resolution to grant the sum of $ 4 353 608 from the Consolidated Fund and to place it at the disposal of the Government to supplement the Estimates 2005-2006 as shown in the Supplementary Estimates No. 14  2005-2006 which form the Schedule to the Resolution and that the Explanatory Notes to Head 48 be amended as set out in Schedule II to the Resolution

Dr. William Duguid (Christ Church West): To ask the Minister of Social Transformation: Is the Minister aware that during the last administration some floodlights were installed at Ferniehurst, St. Michael but that there is need for a pavilion and community centre in the area? Will the Minister disclose if there are any plans for the provision of such facilities in the area?

Will the Minister state (a) How much money has been spent to date on the infrastructural component of the Educational Sector Enhancement Programme (EduTech)? ((b) At what stage is the programme? (c) What is the schedule, if any, for the completion of the project? 2. Will the Minister also state (a) Whether there are any plans to introduce this programme at the Christ Church Girls' School? (b) If so, when will the infrastructural work commence?

Mr. Ronald Jones (Christ Church East Central): To ask the Minister of Public Works (a) Is the Minister aware of the low visibility at the junction of Bannatyne Gardens and the Newton - St. David's Road and the problems that can stem from such low visibility? (b) If the Minister is so aware, will the Minister state what plans, if any, his ministry has to address the problem and when will such action commence?
