         The Prevention of Corruption Bill, 2010.

         The following are the Members of this Joint Committee:

Terms of Reference are as follows:

To inquire into and determine whether the Act as drafted effectively
fulfils its comprehensive and multi-disciplinary approach to prevention
and combating corruption and preventing damage to our democratic
institutions, the management of our public affairs, our national economy
and rule of law.

To examine whether the Act as drafted and current legislation will upon
effective implementation contribute to increased political stability and
our sustainable development, ultimately eradicating organised crime from
our economic landscape.

To examine and analyse whether the provisions of the Act relating to
financial disclosure are likely to deter citizens from serving in public life.

To make recommended changes if deemed necessary to the Bill as
drafted for further consideration by the Chief Parliamentary Counsel.

Senator the Hon. Miss M. P. O. McClean: To resume debate on the Second Reading of the Preservation of Antiquities and Relics Bill, 2011.

Senator the Hon. Miss M. P. O. McClean: To move the passing of a
Resolution to approve in accordance with section 5 of the Land Acquistion
Act, Cap. 228 the compulsory acquisition by the Crown of the two
parcels of land, one situate at The Garden Land, and the other at Skeetes
Road, Bank Hall in the parish of St. Michael in this Island for the public
purpose of the construction of a pump station and septic tank to address
the domestic sewage issues in the area as part of the upgrading to be
conducted under the Housing and Neighbourhood Upgrading Programme
(HNUP).

Resolution to approve the guarantee by the Minister of Finance of the
principal sum of BDS $160 million to be raised by the Barbados National
Oil Company Limited through the issue and sale of fixed and floating
rate bonds from BNB Finance & Trust Corporation on the terms and
conditions set out in the Schedule to the Resolution.

Senator the Hon. Miss M. P. O. McClean: To move the passing of a
Resolution to approve in accordance with section 5 of the Land Acquisition Act, Cap. 228 the compulsory acquisition by the Crown of the parcels of land situate at Dalkeith Road in the parish of St. Michael in this Island for the public purpose of housing development.

Notice of this Resolution was given on 17th March, 2012.

Senator the Hon. Miss M. P. O. McClean: To move the passing of a
Resolution to approve in accordance with section 5(1)(c) of the Crown
Lands (Vesting and Disposal) Act, Cap. 225, the lease of the parcel of land
together with the buildings thereon, the property of the Crown, situate
at Ashton Hall in the parish of St. Peter in this Island, to the American
World Clinics (Barbados) Limited for the development and operation of
an international health centre which will include a hospital, a clinic, health
and wellness services, recovery facilities and other related facilities in
health sciences and biotechnology for international visitors and other
persons who may wish to purchase these services.

QUESTIONS

Senator K. D. Symmonds asked the following questions:

To ask the Leader of the Senate:

1. Can the Minister state whether a negotiating team for Barbados has
been constituted in order to interface with authorities of the Republic
of Trinidad and Tobago on the matter of reaching a fishing agreement
between the two countries?

(a) If the answer is yes, will the Minister provide the names of the
members of that team?

(b) Further, will the Minister state the number of engagements, if
any, the team has had with their Trinidad and Tobago
counterparts since being constituted?

2. Will the Minister state what plans, if any, the government has to advance
the process of reaching a fishing agreement with the Republic of Trinidad
and Tobago.

1. Is the Minister aware of the growing public concern over the rising
cost of living in Barbados?

If the Minister is aware will the Minister state what plans, if any, her
government has of addressing this concern?

2. Will the Minister please state what plans, if any, her government has to
expand the basket of goods not subject to VAT and other impositions?

3. Will the Minister state whether her government has commissioned a
comprehensive review of the extent and impact of price movement on
basic foods and other items in this country since January 2010?

(a) If such a study has been commissioned will the Minister state
the findings of this study?
